NEWS RELEASE
The Next Page Launches InterAgency Council Website
Glen Cove, NY - August 1, 2001 - The Next Page has launched
the InterAgency Council of Glen Cove website
giving the 48 IAC member agencies the ability to collaborate electronically.
The InterAgency Council of Glen Cove ("IAC") was established in 1971 to improve the delivery of human services through cooperation, communication and coordination of community agencies. Its primary mission is to enhance the delivery of human services through collaboration and communication, and to provide mutual support among community agencies through sharing and networking.
The Next Page was commissioned to develop a professional Internet presence for the IAC and create a collaborative web space to provide a central location for information sharing with community agencies. In an exciting new direction the project specifications called for a website design that includes features for use in the community at large enabling citizens in need of specific member services to search online by keyword and quickly identify the agency or resource that can best serve their need.
The result is an interactive, user maintainable web site and a powerful new tool for the IAC, its members and the Glen Cove Community. The Next Page’s Content Management Tool Box is a key element that powers the back office maintainable features including:
- An events calendar
- A member directory
- A dynamic member directory print utility that creates a ‘print ready’ file
Community centric features for use by the IAC and members as well as the community at large include:
- Online public surveys
- The ability to conduct polls to collect direct feedback from the community on specific issues.
- A Resource listing with links to a vast amount of information from external resources such as nonprofit news, available grants and funding, related foundations, volunteer opportunities, and government programs.
With direct administrative control over a significant portion of the site content the IAC can provide up to date information for its members and the interactive community features will facilitate identification of new opportunities and evaluation of current programs.
These key elements, active content management, interactive resources and access to external information are essential for generating continued interest and return visits to the site. This in turn promotes a higher level of collaboration within the IAC member agencies and Glen Cove community at large.
The entire Glen Cove IAC model, including web based interactivity, is envisioned as a model for development of more efficient delivery of human services. The underlying theme of Community Collaboration through Technology is advocated as an essential element to expand the reach and exploit synergies of existing programs in an economical, accessible framework.
Training and Ongoing Development
The Next Page supports the IAC as their Technology Assistance Provider and continues to work with IAC members to promote technological awareness and site use. In order to ensure that IAC members are on a technical level playing field The Next Page provided an in-depth assessment of participating members. Initial hands on workshops and training seminars are being developed to educate and motivate members to use the available tools. Additional programs will be developed from information gathered in these sessions and specific needs are identified.
The first series consists of:
- Introduction to Information Technology : High level overview of options and tools available.
- Technology Workshop #1 : Email and electronic communication tools.
- Technology Workshop #2 : Internet WWW essentials.
Also in the works is a download area where visitors can obtain documents posted by members or the IAC using PDF and other formats to promote document exchange.
Technical
The initial design of this web project included several dynamic sections that can be easily administered by the IAC. TNP's web-based back office support interface provides a rich set of features to allow authorized users the ability to manage information in real-time from any Internet connection. This secured web space offers a distributed workflow environment and eliminates the redundancy of updating and maintaining data in multiple locations.
